Care of EquipmentElectronic equipment has a specified operating range for temperature and humidity. It is not guaranteed to work outside the specified limits. When equipment has been in a cold location (such as a van or a car boot) it must be left wrapped in a sealed polythene bag in a warm room for at least one hour before power is connected. Explanation: If cold equipment is unwrapped immediately in a warm room, it is likely that water droplets will condense on electronic components, causing a short-circuit that will do damage if power is applied. However, equipment must be kept as cool as possible for reliable operation. Install it in a cool place in a cool room; preferably on an open shelf with at least 400mm of air space above. Placing equipment in a warm room or inside a cabinet without good ventilation will reduce its life and could cause operational problems. Damage caused by overheating is often permanent. Stacking equipment can also cause overheating and may also allow one unit to interfere with another. All equipment emits a small amount of electrical interference so units should be kept apart in order to minimise such problems. When we install your equipment it may not be practicable to do so in a manner that minimises overheating or interference. You should reposition equipment in accordance with the guidance we've given above. Before connecting or disconnecting equipment, you should first put it into standby and allow a minute for any internal moving parts to stop (e.g. an internal Hard Drive). Then switch all the equipment power off at the wall socket(s) and ensure that all front panel lights have gone off. It should then be safe to touch the connections. Be sure to label each plug or connector so that it's easy to tell where it is supposed to fit. |
